This is a very special Friday Flashback. Two years ago the world lost a GREAT man. My Grandpa Charlie. He passed away May 20, 2009. My mom is still very upset about this loss. He was the most wonderful man that you could ever meet. He would give the shirt off of his back for you. He helped raise my mom and mom tells me living with Grandpa Charlie for 20 some years she can't ever remember a time that he got mad at her or ever made her feel like he didn't love her. Mom still cries a lot thinking about him no longer being here but she is trying to move on with life because that is what Grandpa would have wanted. This picture is so special to mom because Grandpa was staying at our house the weekend that they picked up their new foster dog...ME! This is a picture of me meeting Grandpa Charlie for the very first time. He used to call me his "little blue eyes" because he had a hard time saying my name but I didn't mind being his little blue eyes. He always asked mom about me when she would call to check in on him since he lived 3 hours away.
Mom says that not a day passes that she doesn't think of her Grandpa. The pain is still unbearable. Mom was with him when he took his final breath. Mom's mom was happy that my mom was with him because Grandpa was with mom when she took her first breath.
Mom also says that even though I am no longer a therapy dog, I was a therapy dog when it mattered and when Grandpa was in the hospital. I got to go see him and he was SO proud of his little blue eyes. He kept telling all the nurses about me and all my training.
Rest in peace Grandpa...you are still loved very much and missed terribly!
This is a beautiful tribute to your grandpa, Sagira! My mom's eyes are a bit leaky too as it's so beautifully written and touching.

ReplyDeleteOh Sagira your Grandpa Charlie sounds like such a wonderful, sweet man. WE are sorry your mom is still sad about him leaving but we understand because our mom is that way about her mom and dad - but she always remembers they are with her in her memories and in her heart, just like your Grandpa Charlie is for your mom.
ReplyDeleteThe light he left behind shines in you. ((((((Christina)))))))

What beautiful memories you have of a wonderful man. We know he is at peace...and is VERY proud of both his "Little Blue Eyes" AND your mom.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute to your grandpa who definitely was a wonderful man. I am suffering leaky eyes now and know the pain of losing someone so close. Know that he is in Heaven with all of the other Angels and looking down on all of you constantly and guarding you. Lots of love, Debbie & Holly
