Samick

Daddy called and spoke to Dr. K. about Samick. He said that even though the tumor doesn't appear to be the fast growing cancer that he thought it might be we still need to try to treat this. He is giving Samick a prescription for some icky pills to try to help with the mass. Samick has to go back in for another ultrasound in a few weeks. If nothing has changed Dr. K feels surgery is needed to remove it.

This makes mom super sad because surgery is going to be around $800. Mom and dad have been struggling to pay bills as it is and this is way out of their budget right now. It makes mom feel like she doesn't love Samick to be able to afford to do surgery. But it is the fact that Samick is 11 years old. She doesn't even know if surgery would be good for a man of his age. Daddy said to take it one day at a time and hopefully his icky pills will work and we will not have to worry about surgery.

Anyone out in blog land have any suggestions to help our family through some tough decisions?

  3. I don't like to have those type of decisions to make either. Your daddy is right....just take one day at a time....

  4. We are so sorry about the news. Mom went through that with her other doggie Alex and she knows all too well the cost and the emotions. We agree with Khyra. Try the icky pills and we hope they will work and we will all go from there. Sending lots of healing thoughts and prayers to Samick. Lots of love to all, Debbie and Holly

  5. We totally understand what you're going through - and it's just not easy. We will continue to pray for Samick - and that the meds will help him.
    Play bows,
    Zim
PS: Mom put that disclaimer on the blog because far too many people say nasty things about anything other than "raw fed" diets and make all kinds of accusations about Hills/Science Diet. We don't find it helpful - to say the least. :)

  6. Awww, Do you have any Vet schools in your area? Sometimes they would perform surgery for a teaching hospital. If you need it, maybe you can ask them for them learning and you get a big discount. If you want, I can put Samick on my Paws and Pray site.
I hope the pills work for Samick and Samick he knows you love him very much.

  7. One day at a time s right...and strong belief that this can be conquered. Samick and you family should reach out and feel the circle of paws around you from all of us in the blog community, sending positive strong energy, support and care your way. Samick has no doubt that he is VERY loved (you can see it in every one of his photos).

  8. Sagria, My Momma and I are sad that Sammick is sick. But we hopes that the pill things help. We will keep our paws crossed. I just know that Sammick knows your Momma loves him. My Momma and Dad had to deal with That Cworkd with my at the bridge sister Freya. I was not born yet but sometimes they still are sad when they talk about her. So we will wish for him to get better on the pill things.

  9. We are with all the doggies above - our vote is to wait and see what happens with the pills first. Sure, they are yucky but they could help - and there is always the power of the paw that can help a bit (at least to help you all feel a bit better knowing we are here). On the cat blogsphere we have had auctions for kittys who need help with vet bills - some of us donate stuff and others bid. I don't know if there is a doggie version of the cat blogosphere that does that but if for some reason the pills don't work (but we know they will) you could try that. We have all had problems before where we had to make tough decisions so we all know how tough this has to be for your family. We are all sending lots of purrs and prayers for the pills to work, so the decision won't be necessary.

  13. It's a tough call. Anasthesia is not without risks. Trouble the kitty has a mast cell tumor that our old vet wanted to take off, but she's 19 with reduced kidney function and mast cells don't grow fast in kitties, so we decided to just wait. That might be the thing to do here -- give the pills a chance before putting Samick under.

  14. Oh Sagira, we're so sorry to hear this. Waiting does sound like the best option right now. Those pills could be just the thing. Sammick knows he is very loved.

Sending you and your family lots of love and hugs,
    Cloud and his mom

  16. When pups have problems, it is never an easy decision. For now, you need to just take it one day at a time. Give the icky pills a try and then see. Maybe you can work out a payment arrangement with your vet so you can spread the cost out a bit. And then weigh the prognosis after surgery agains your other options. Samick knows you have his best interests at heart and will do the best you can.

  17. Again, we can't help. As you go through your ordeal with Samick and his tumor, we're experiencing the same as you already know. Linguini got her first tumor a year ago, when she was ten. We watched it and it suddenly grew just this past week. The vet still doesn't want to remove the benign (like S's) tumor. We're holding our breaths and crossing our paws for all our beloveds, kk?
I also keep forgetting to respond to your daddy about the camera. We use the Nikon D60 but we can't recommend it because it's lacking one major feature. You can't use the LCD screen except for playback and access to settings.

  18. Awww, so sorry to hear about Samick. Take it day to day. Give the icky pills a chance. Don't put so much pressure on yourselves to make a choice of what to do right now. Enjoy your Samick as much as you can just in case things take a turn for the worse. But we are all praying for your with our paws crossed and have you in our thoughts.

    We love you,
    Much Love,
    Woofs and Hugs,
