Starr

This past Sunday mom and dad took Starr to the emergency vet ER place. After about 5 hours they came back home. My sister is not able to put much weight on her back right leg. They did x-rays and stuff on both her hips and her knees. The doctor came back and told mom and dad that they both looked clean for a dog Starr's age (she is 12 now). She said she sees some arthritis in her hips but nothing more than a dog her age would be expected to have. They are not sure why Starr can't put any weight down and gave her a prescription for some Tramadol and some joint supplement chews. They said if she isn't feeling better in 10 days or gets worse that we need to take her back in. Starr could use some healing vibes from all our blog pals. It is now several days later and she is about the same.

  1. We are sending lots of purrs for Starr and hope she quickly improves. Maybe she has moved awkwardly and pulled a muscle or ligament that wouldn't show on an X ray.

  4. This makes us think of what happened to Tommy in July. He stopped putting weight on one of his legs. We thought that he has a ligament issue or some kind of strain. Back and forth to the vet, until we found out he had a thorn embedded in his foot. Have they checked Starr out for this kind of stuff?

Do you think a heating pad might help her to feel better if it is arthritis?

  15. Sending White Dog healing vibes and positive thoughts to Starr. Here are some suggestions since Quinn has back leg issues...If you have a vibrating massager especailly one with a heat element use it daily to go down the spine from neck to tail and then down each leg. Massage for at least 10-15 minute (or as long as she will le still; Quinn has grown to love it)...See if your vet has the ability to do Laser Treatments that are a bit pricey but work like a charm for a couple of weeks both Quinn and Gibson from FiveSibes get them...Swimming; one of our pet day car places has a large pool and swimming or even walking in the water is excellent exercise for the legs without having weight on them...Add a teaspoon of turmeric to Starr's food, it is an amazing antiinflammatory, takes about a week to start working. We use just the kitchen spice no need for fancy health food store capsules.
